AUSTRALIA, April 28, 2017 (HealthDay News) --In a country with a population of about 10 billion people, Australia has the biggest population base in the world for erectile dysfunction drugs.The Australian Government's new policy on erectile dysfunction drugs will include a new approach for improving the quality of life for the millions of men who suffer from erectile dysfunction.The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Australian Diabetes Foundation (ADA) will oversee the development and marketing of the first erectile dysfunction drug to date.The NMRC andADA will have a joint executive committee to discuss the proposed policy.In Australia, erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection that is firm enough to enable satisfactory sexual intercourse.The policy, developed by the Australian Society for Sexual Medicine (ASSM), is aimed at improving the quality of life for the millions of Australian men who suffer from erectile dysfunction.It aims to increase awareness of the condition, improve access to services, and improve treatment adherence for men with the condition.The NMRC andADA will also provide advice on how to address the concerns raised by the NMRC andADA.
The first erectile dysfunction drug to be approved in Australia is called Viagra, which was introduced in 2013.
